The contributors have been selected, and we are thrilled with the quality and variety of prose and poetry for our first annual Nature’s Gifts anthology. More than twenty pieces, from haiku to villanelles, from essays to short stories, will delight nature lovers everywhere. Take a walk in a garden or hike in a national park. Reflect on the moon. Learn something new. Laugh—and cry—with our writers as they discover the beauty, the joys, and the raw power of nature.

The Nature Conservancy will receive a donation of 50 percent of the profits for every book sold in both print and e-book editions for one year. Dedicated to protecting our rapidly vanishing natural environment, The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 117 million acres of land in 28 countries.

There’s a new bookshelf in town and it’s dedicated to local Rockland authors

The Arts Alliance in Haverstraw hosted an Author Reception on Sunday, January 17, 2010 to kick off its new Rockland Author Series. Featuring a bookshelf of books by local authors, monthly writing workshops, art exhibits by local artists, performing and visual art classes, and other events, the Arts Alliance is a true cultural hub celebrating creativity.

Works by local authors Chelle Cordero, Charmaine Gordon, Janet Lane Walters, Kathy Kubrik, Barbara Werzansky, Donna Kremer, Laura Marie Henion, and Dina Bar-Tov are for sale at the Arts Alliance; a portion of the sales will go towards programs at the center. Participating authors will also conduct monthly writing workshops and other events. Workshops are scheduled the third Thursday each month; check the Arts Alliance calendar for other dates and event descriptions. The first monthly workshop in the series will be Character Development taught by author Chelle Cordero on Thursday, February 18 from 7-to-8 PM.

The Arts Alliance of Haverstraw is a not-for-profit multicultural center for the arts. It was established by “a group of community members and artists with the commitment to celebrate the creativity of all of our people; our mandate is to give sustenance and to share the art of our rich and diverse cultural heritages.” The center is located at 91 Broadway in the Village of Haverstraw, New York in Rockland County.

For more information about the Rockland Author Series and other programs at the Arts Alliance of Haverstraw, contact the Executive Director, Anthony P. Accomando, at (845) 786-0253.

Vanilla Heart Publishing is pleased to support our authors in  Operation E-Book Drop

UPDATE! Our Vanilla Heart Publishing OEBD Participating Authors have topped 579 free ebook downloads to deployed troops!

Men and women of our Coalition Forces are away from home and putting themselves on the line for the rest of us. No matter what our personal political beliefs are, honoring our men and women as they sacrifice their own time, safety, and energies, to say the least, for all of us, seems a small price to pay.

What is Operation E-Book Drop?

Author Ed Patterson had an online conversation with a soldier stationed in Iraq who was having difficulty getting books to read on his Kindle - there isn't a whole lot to do for entertainment there. Ed sent the soldier a complete file of his books in Kindle format - and then the idea struck him that there might be other soldiers and other authors who would want to participate. Sure enough, lists started to form and books were being sent over the internet in various e-book formats.

Then the wonderful staff at Smashwords found out about this effort and decided to promote the program - Smashwords authors can use special coupon codes to send the members of the Coalition Forces so they can download books to their reading devices. Since Smashwords offers books in several ebook formats (including Kindle, Palm, .pdf and more), books are readable on all reading devices and even with a web browser.
