Author and Artist Mary Quast lives in a log home with her husband, three young sons, and a collection of animal family members including her faithful dog, Maggie, as well as guinea pigs, frogs, a painted turtle named Picasso, and fish - many fish!
She is currently working on two novels in her Soul Series, Fortunate Soul and Dark Soul, both joining Painted Soul (June 2008), Tormented Soul (August 2008), and Lonely Soul (October 2008).
Mary says:
My ideal writing day is:
Get up early. Exercise for 15 min before waking son #1 for
school. After son #1 gets on bus, I
write for 15 minutes in my writing journal, then do yoga for 15 minutes. Wake son #2 and send him to school. I then go to my home office and write for 2
hours before son #3 wakes. Writing is
put on hold until son #3 goes down for a nap, and then I’ll have 2 more hours
of writing. Once son #1 is home, he can
keep son #3 occupied upon waking from his nap to give me another hour or two of
writing. After all boys are in bed, I
might get 2-4 more hours of writing.
Now, the way my writing day really goes:
Write for 10 minutes, get
interrupted.

Write for 10 minutes, get interrupted.Along with her fiction writing, Mary is writing the Christian Education part of an after school program her church offers for children grades 1-6. She has rewritten a 15 week catechism course and expanded it into a 5 year program.
She has also been called upon to write an educational but humorous column called “Presbyterian 101” that is featured in the church monthly newsletter.

author says, “At the age of sixteen, I had the opportunity to visit the
Soho district of London and was inspired by the atmosphere. This
inspiration continued to build in me over the years until I completed Painted Soul,
and was so completely entranced by all the characters, I just had to
write more novels to tell their individual stories. I couldn’t stop
writing.”
Quast currently has two more of the series completed in addition to Painted Soul;
Tormented Soul and Lonely Soul,
and is working on the fourth ‘Soul’ novel. “Every novel reveals more
characters and plot twists to delve into, and more people’s lives and
loves to write about,” says Quast. “I may never stop writing the
stories inside my head,” she promises.
